In My Mailbox ● #5

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme created by Kristi @ The Story Siren where you share your books haul, whether the books be bought, received for review, or from the library!

The "Break" in my March Break is officially starting now. That leaves me just a bit over a day before returning back to class on Monday. Go figure. Anyhow, I'm hoping you guys had a better week than I did! Did you all get some nice books? A Temptation of Angels is coming out soon!! Eeee!!! Oh, as well as The Hunger Games movie for you THG fans!

Here's Vivi's IMM for this week! Any mutual reads?

Title: Surrender (Haunting Emma #3)
Author: Lee Nichols
From Public Library; Goodreads

I waited an entire TWO MONTHS for this hold to arrive. To be honest, I was going to buy my own copy, but I was out of allowance (like almost 90% of the time). Also, I've bought "Betrayal", the second book already. This is an AWESOME trilogy! My "Deception" review here, and now that I have the 3rd book in my hands, I should probably post that 2nd book review...

Title: Bright Young Things (Bright Young Things #1)
Author: Anna Godbersen
From Public Library; Goodreads

Let me be honest with you guys. I'm not a huge fan of this author. Her writing, obviously going for the sophisticated, detailed, socialite-style of the olden days, does not come across as well-pulled-off for me. I can be extremely picky when it comes to that sort of writing style purely because I've read some seriously well-written books in that style. Which is also why I returned this book after reading a couple of chapters last year. Anyhow, I found the Luxe to be pretty entertaining (although not spectacular), and since I didn't write a review for Ms. Godbersen yet, I went back to check this one out again. Sorry to you guys who are bigger fans of her. I don't mean to hurt any feelings...

I have so many books stacked up I'm surprised I managed to have 2 new books in my mailbox at all! Not much to share here, you guys most likely have more exciting mailboxes, haha! Please leave a comment and a link, and I'll drop by sometime!

Vivian's Reading List (March-April):
1. "Blood Red Road" by Moira Young (currently reading)
2. "Secrets & Shadows" by Shannon Delaney
3. "Vampire Academy" by Richelle Mead
4. "Another Pan" by Daniel & Dina Nayeri
5. "Clockwork Angel" by Cassandra Clare
6. "Fallen" by Lauren Kate
7. "Surrender" by Lee Nichols

  3. I have a TON of books stacked up too so I'm trying not to get anything new. I haven't heard of the Haunting Emma series but looks good. Must be popular if you had to wait 2 months. There were book wait lists at my library that have taken that long too. Bright Young Things sounds interesting as well. Happy reading and thanks for visiting My IMM!

  5. Lovely stack. I got Bright Young Things a couple of months ago, but not got round to it yet. It sounds okay, but there's all these new books that keep pulling my attention away. I find Cassandra Clare's books so moreish - it's kind of like peanuts, once I start I can't stop.
Can't wait to start Blood Red Road too! Keep hearing good things about it.
Thanks for stopping by My IMM

  8. The Luxe series is a 3 stars read for me. The writing is good and easy to flow, but well... the story is not really my type. :P Hopefully Bright Young Things will be amazing read for you, Vivian! Happy reading! <3

  10. You have a great list of books coming up to read. I want to read Blood Red Road really bad. I will come back and see if you liked it or not. I received my copy of Bright Young Things from amazon.com it was either a freebie or one of those discounted books less than 3.99. I guess I should try and read it soon.

  11. I'm looking forward to your review about Anna Godbersen her book. I've had my doubts about those books, so it will be up to your review if I give them a chance or not ;)

  12. Surrender!! I still need to read Deception because I recently read a review that raved on its awesomeness, so thanks so much for reminding me, Vivi! :) I'm not a fan of supremely sophisticated writing either LOL but hopefully you still like this one. And A Temptation of Angels actually released early here in Canada so I have a beautiful copy of it sitting on my shelf! (So excited to start it!)

Awesome-filled mailbox this week, Vivian! I hope you enjoy them both! ;)

  13. Y'know, while I know nothing about A Temptation of Angels and have only seen the cover, I'm excited for it to come out! And The Hunger Games... I expect to cry tons when it's out. I'll be watching it with my friends from university, so... Fingers crossed! It looks great already though!

The Haunting Emma series looks like it's worth a shot. I've read Hand-Me-Down by Lee Nichols already and, while it's pretty much chick lit, which I like to avoid, I enjoyed it. It I've added Deception to my to-read list! And while I trust your judgment, being picky with socialite-style books, I think I'll give Bright Young Things a try too. I haven't read The Luxe so I guess I have no expectations! (I also love your reading list, by the way!)

I hope you'll enjoy the last day of your break, Vivian. You deserve to end it well! I hope class will start on a good note for you too!

  14. Hello there Vivian, these are unfamiliar titles to me, so thank you for introducing me to them. I also saw that you have quite a lot on your plate for your reading list this March-April. Cassandra Clare, I see, is a staple for most. Enjoy your new reads!

  23. I've been wanting to give the Haunting Emma series a whirl; but I can never find the 1st book at the library! Bright Young Things was okay; I agree with you about the writing style - it's not my fave either; but I did grab the 2nd book in this series at the library this weekend because I LOVE anything about the 1920's. Thanks for stopping by my blog; I'm following you back!

  24. Ahhh I NEED to read Betrayal already!! I loved Deception and got Betrayal a few weeks back, but it's still sitting unread in my bookshelf. WHY?! I have no idea =\

Aw, sucks that Anna Godbersen doesn't do much for you. You shouldn't apologise though. Some books are just not mean for some people. I'm not a big fan of Cassandra Clare's writing - I read the first three TMI books and tried Clockwork Angel, but I just can't get into them the way others do. I'd love to be as big a fan as most are, but alas... not all books are made for everyone! Anyway, hope you enjoy Deception!! :)

    1. Brodie~~~ Betrayal needs to be read! D:
It was so fast-paced and epic-ly exciting, I whirled through it in about 3 hours after buying it. then I was dying waiting for the release of Surrender :/
