Waigh in Wednesday #3

Weigh in Wednesday is a weekly meme created and hosted by Lauren @ Epilogue. It features a topic in which each blogger can share their opinions on.

This week's topic is....-drum roll!-

Light Blog Background vs. Dark Blog Background

Vivi will have to go with light background. My eyes are bad. Like, really, really, really, really bad, and it's not that I can't read on a dark background clearly; it's more like it's quite uncomfortable for me because my eyes don't like the sharp sting of contrast of a dark surrounding with light text popping out. It's great to have a dark background with light font, but for me, it hurts my eyes to read it. Sorry for sounding picky >_<

Anyway, I've recently found that I like white backgrounds the best, which is also one of the factors that caused me to choose this particular layout design.

What do you guys think? Light or dark?

♡ Vivian

  2. I feel guilty now because I have a dark background for my blog, I am harming eyes! I like any layout as long as the colours go together, some blogs have some really bizarre assortment of colours, black with neon green and then they throw in a bright purple. Now that hurts my eyes. You're layout is very cute and I approve of your font, some blogs also have hard to read text that I don't bother to read. There was one blog I came across that had gothic style italicised font and it was small too, as soon as I saw it I left.

  4. Hey Vivian,

Thanks for this post you finally pushed me to add a printer friendly/pdf icon to my posts. I've been wanting to add it but haven't until now because I figured not many people would want to print my posts but with this icon you not only print posts but you can also view them as PDFs with the white background and black text :). I hope this helps you and other people read my posts with less difficulty!

    1. Oh, and I like white backgrounds too! I originally had light purple, but I feel like white has such a more brighter happier appeal! (: Love your design, Vivian !~

  7. I don't have a preference--light or dark is okay with me! As long as the posts are easy to read. :)

  8. I haven't thought about it, but I do want a nice contrast. A black background with neon bright pink letters, then I will definitely click on the X right away :p

But if I really must choose, I think I prefer a lighter background :) That's what I have in my design and I quite like it that way ^^

And I find your background great this way.

  9. I totally agree! The weird thing is, this wasn't always the case.... well that just goes to show that the internet has successfully ruined my vision...
    I regret nothing!

But yes, I also like light backgrounds :)

  11. I feel bad, as I am into the black bacground, and try to do text light but not bright colors, and try to make the larger too. Been working with some different colors to see how they look. My new background is more of a dark gray now, instead of black. Let me know what you think, if its still hard to read. I am finding with this dark grey and teal font is easy on the eyes, and easy to read. Think it was not this last post, but the one before that I have some teal. Testing different fonts too.
To me, black background and light font is easy on my eyes, I have my kindle fire on night reading when in bed (thats black background, white text) and can read hours longer than if white.
This is a cute blog design, I just like the darker colors more close to my preferred paranormal books I like to read. I guess I am weird. I know if reading in the readers, it all comes out with white background, so you could always do that too. Just my thoughts.

  13. Same here! My eyes get so tired when I have to read light text on a dark background. I just hate it!

  14. I used to always prefer darker backgrounds but now I'd have to say light too. It's not that I find it hard to decipher dark layouts, but it can be uncomfortable to the eyes after a while... :)

  15. You're not picky at all! I think many people prefer light backgrounds becase of readability! Anyway, if I really want to follow a blog and the readability factor is quite bad, I'll just stick to following via RSS...

  16. I like the look of the all black background so when I very first started my blog I did that. Well after a week I changed it so the writing part is white and then my sidebars are black. It hurt my eyes too much. I keep the writing large and black and easy to read. The blogs with a lot of colors are pretty but I do get some eye strain after awhile.
